Algernon's Lab
Introduction
This is the 6th Level of the "Tarragona: World Heritage Saga". It is the 6th one in the saga but not in time,
because its release is earlier than previous levels in the saga.
The episode starts at the end of level 5 and its an small homage to Daniel Key's history "Flowers for Algernon" (Hugo
price winner in 1960). If you have read the book or seen the film (Charlie, Oscar to the best actor) you will know
Algernon, a very clever mouse resolving difficult labyrinths. If not, well, read the history. I agree with Asimov that
is one of the more wonderful histories never wrote.
Synopsis
Lara is still inside the hide base she discovered at the end of TWH3 (Devil's Bridge). Before find the exit, she must
walk through the laboratories, maintenance tunnels and office sections of the secret base.
Warning!
There are two scripts in the ZIP:
- Script0106.dat This one is compatible with all the published TWH levels (1, 2, 4 & 6). Copy it to c:\Program Files\Core Design\Trle
and rename it as Script.dat The script will crash if TRWH1 (Escipion.tr4) is not installed.
- Script.dat If you only have installed level 6, use this one. Copy it to c:\Program Files\Core Design\Trle
If you do not hear some sound probably that is due to the fact that you do not have installed the "patched wads" and its
sounds. You can find it at
http://www.eidosinteractive.com/downloads/search.html?gmid=103
or
ftp://ftp.eidos.com/pub/othermedia/tomb_raider_5/revised_wads0110.zip)
If you use your custom script its possible that you lose the name of the objects, the background music and the load
screen. If you decompile the script and you use the FlyCheat code, be aware that impossible/unexpected situations, like
reach some where before time, objects that do not work as supposed, ... I have work in some of them but ... Good look!
Some notes
I had receive a lot of congratulations with my first 3 levels (TWH 1, 2 & 4), but I have also received some complains.
The main complains were: "too few enemies" and "too challenging for non experienced players". TWH6 is the result:
There were several reasons for have few enemies in the previous levels:
- I do not like violence.
- The "Custom Wad" were not yet possible at this time and the available enemies were not applicable to the level.
- The level was so big or complex that was crashing with a more diversity of enemies.
I am still not a violence lover but, well, here you have some blood. I hope all people that congratulated me for the
opposite reason will excuse me.
I have also tried to make a non "too much challenging level". There are still challenging but I have tried to reserve it
for the secrets. I hope that "challenging lovers" will also excuse me.
One thing is clear, it is not possible to please everybody at the same time! I hope you will enjoy the level!
I have developed the level using the default colour settings of my graphic card (Desktop, Direct3D and Glide/OpenGL
settings R:1.30 G:1.30 B:1.30), and less some rooms that are intentioned dark, I am able to see fine rooms. If you see
too dark, may be you need to adjust the brightness, contrast or graphic card defaults.
Recognitions
I want to thanks to:
- Michael L. Jelarcic, by his TRWest v2.0 utility, that I have used to generate the custom Wad. It is a
wonderful tool.
- John F. Jones, by his Texture Edit v2.0.0, used to create my texture file, he made me the live easier.
- "Turbo Pascal" by his StrPix v3.0 Beta that I have used to create/modify my Custom objects. Thanks a lot!.
Walkthrough
After open the initial door and the initial fly-by you reach the Control Room of the Base. For the moment you can
only visit the lower floor, climb the computers, monkey swim the pasage. Notice the closed door under the glass floor.
Use the switch to open the left door and follow the corridor.
After slide by the slope a Fly-by will show you the Crystal labyrinth. Cross the infrared rays and a guard will
lowered the labyrinth.
The cameras will help you to find the way to the centre of the labyrinth, you must walk ever in to the camera direction.
If you do not like the camera, you can use the "look key" (0) to change it. In the centre you will find the Crow bar,
the exit door will be opened and the Bull will be liberated. Now you must use the cameras to get the exit of the
labyrinth. In the Bull Room a switch will open the exit door. From here you can get the way to the top of the
labyrinth (1)to pick the 6 shooter. Get again the Bull Room
take the exit corridor and use the guns to crash the grid to get the Maintenance tunnels
(2).

In the tunnels you must find a switch to open an Underwater Door that will let you access the room with the
Iron Key. After open the Black Door you can reach the Death Room, with skulls in the ceiling, touch
the ceiling skulls means the Lara death. At the far end of the room you can see the Silver Skull, this is the
1st Secret (3). It will be hard to get the skull, there are not
clues about the correct way. But if you follow the good way the block will fall at Lara back. Be aware after some time
all blocks will fall. Find the way to the exit picking the skull.

Get the end of the corridor and jump to the water, dive to find the exit chamber. There is a cliff in the wall than you
can use to reach the exit passage (4). Follow the corridor, climb the
stairs, pick the Uzi and shoot the grid to reach the Offices of the Base.
Now you can find an open door that is the entrance of a small warehouse, (5)
Moving some shelves (6) and crashing (6)
some boxes in your way to the exit. You can also find a grid hidden behind a box, but a gate is closing the way. Fight
with a SAS find a second open door.
You will enter a room with a mirror (8). Before pick up the Security
Key, save the game (at least one person was reported a crash in the middle of the fight, for the moment I have not
any clue to fix it). Behind the mirror (9) there is a secondary control
room, shoot against the mirror and fight with the guards (10).
Follow the corridors, cross the Control Room and take the right door. At the end you will find a Hall with a switched
door at the left, it is kind of "Bowling Room". From the slope will falls a couple of groups of Rolling Balls.
The first set will open the door under the room, the door grants the access to the 2nd Secret
(11). Fall in the water pit means the death, there is no escape.
Follow the corridor the reach again the Bowling. The next room is an aquatic labyrinth
(12). The cameras will help you to find the exit. After reach again the hall
you find two new open doors, take the left one.
The next room is a labyrinth with moving columns. This is a tricky room. I am not sure but probably it is not possible
to cross it jumping, but you can monkey swim the ceiling (13). Reach the
central platform and shot against the grid, this will stop the column. Take the corridor and shot against the second grid
that will stop the remaining columns. Now you might deal with a couple of Ninjas, before get the 3rd Secret.
Came back to the Hall and use the remaining door. Press the switch, shot against the grid and take the Maintenance Corridor
to reach a Crowbar switch. This switch will open a trapdoor in the ceiling in the middle of the top of Control
Room ceiling. Climb the corridor to reach a final Laboratory. There is a pool with a kind of giant diamond
(14), in lateral room there is a Jump Switch, you must monkey swim
the passage to do it. The switch will open the door and activate the machine that will open an exit tunnel
(15).
